New, Refurbished, and Used Robots Explained

Our listing includes new (never-used), refurbished, and used industrial robots. New units are unused robots still in factory condition. Used robots are sold largely as removed from service, with condition disclosed but without a refurbishment pass. Refurbished robots have gone through inspection and repair work before resale, which normally covers reducer and gearbox grease service, replacement of controller and encoder batteries, inspection or replacement of motor and dress-pack cables, mastering verification, teach pendant testing, and a check of controller boards, fans, and connectors for heat or corrosion damage.

The trade-off is straightforward: new robots cost more but arrive with no service history to interpret; used robots cost less but carry more inspection burden onto the buyer; refurbished robots sit between the two, with documented work performed but still less than a new-robot service life. Model families across brands in our listing include:

  • FANUC LR Mate, M-10iA, M-20iA, R-2000iC, and ARC Mate families
  • ABB IRB 140, IRB 1600, IRB 2600, IRB 4600, and IRB 6700 families
  • Yaskawa Motoman HP, MH, and UP families
  • KUKA KR AGILUS (KR 6 R700 sixx), KR QUANTEC extra (KR 150 and KR 210 R2700 extra) and earlier KR 150-2 and KR 60 series
  • Omron Adept Cobra and eCobra SCARA, Viper six-axis and Quattro delta families
  • AUBO i-series and iS-series collaborative arms

How to Choose the Right Robot Model

Payload specifications describe the robot’s rated capacity at the wrist flange, not the part alone. Gripper weight, tooling, dress-pack routing, and payload inertia all subtract from usable capacity, and usable payload drops further at extended reach, at odd wrist orientation, or at higher speed. Confirm the actual mounted load before selecting a model, not just the finished part weight.

Reach and work envelope need to be checked against the real cell layout: mounting orientation (floor, wall, shelf, or inverted), fixture access, singularities, collision zones with fixtures or other robots, and required wrist posture at the far end of the motion. A robot with adequate straight-line reach can still be unsuitable if the wrist cannot reach the required orientation without a singularity or a collision.

Axis count and controller generation matter as much as payload and reach. Controller generation determines available software options, whether replacement boards and drives are still supplied, and whether the teach pendant and cabling match current parts. Within FANUC, R-30iB and R-30iB Plus controllers support newer options than R-J3iB or R-J2; within ABB, IRC5 (RobotWare 5 and 6) has far wider software and parts support than S4C and S4C+; the same pattern holds for Yaskawa (DX100 versus older XRC) and KUKA (KR C4 versus KR C2).

Inspection Checklist Before You Buy

Before committing to a used robot, request documentation and run a physical inspection rather than relying on a visual walk-around. A used industrial robot can look clean and still have a failing reducer, a dead mastering battery, or a cracked dress-pack cable that only shows up under motion.

  • Servo-on hours, motion hours, and power-on hours from the controller
  • Alarm history log, including any repeated overcurrent, overload, or encoder faults
  • Axis-by-axis backlash results and any unusual gear noise under load
  • Mastering status and calibration records for each axis
  • Controller battery and robot encoder battery replacement dates
  • Condition of cables, connectors, dress pack, and wrist seals, checking for grease leakage
  • Cooling fan operation and cabinet filter condition
  • Installed software options and a current backup of programs and configuration files
  • Last known application and any unauthorized modification to tooling or wiring

What Drives Industrial Robot Price

Industrial robot price is not a single number per model; it moves with several factors at once. Controller generation matters because a robot on IRC5, R-30iB, or DX100 supports current software options and available parts, while a robot on an older platform such as S4C, R-J2, or XRC may be priced lower but carries more parts-sourcing risk. Condition matters in the same way: new, refurbished, and used units of the same model carry different inspection and service history, which is reflected in price.

Payload class is another driver, since larger robots use heavier castings, larger reducers, and larger servo motors. Included options change price as well, covering items such as vision systems, arc-welding packages (including wire feeders and torches), dress packs, teach pendants, and safety components. Lead time also factors into the buy decision: new-robot lead times depend on the manufacturer’s current quotation and supply chain for that exact model and options, while a used or refurbished unit already in inventory can often move faster once specifications are confirmed.

Why Buy Through Robotics Integration

Buying the robot is one part of putting it to work. We support the integration side of the purchase, including mechanical mounting, end-of-arm tooling selection and mounting, safety guarding and risk assessment for the cell, electrical and safety wiring, network and I/O mapping, and controller and mastering checks during commissioning.

We also support programming for the specific application, whether that means re-teaching points after a controller change, converting programs between controller generations, or writing new programs for a machine-tending, welding, palletizing, or handling task. After installation, we provide training on the robot and controller you purchased, and we offer ongoing repair support for the major brands we sell, including FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa Motoman and KUKA.

Request a Quote

To get a written quote, tell us the application (welding, palletizing, machine tending, assembly, dispensing, or handling), the part or tooling weight including the gripper, the reach or work envelope needed, the target cycle time, and any preferred brand or controller generation. If you already have a robot and controller in mind from the models listed above, include the model number and controller so we can confirm current availability and condition.

Call 1-602-449-1556 to speak with someone about your application, or send the details above and we will follow up with pricing and lead time for the specific unit that fits your process.
