FANUC Robot Training Courses, Levels 1-4

Instructor-led FANUC training in Warren, Michigan or at your plant, covering R-J3 through R-30iB Plus controllers, in 5-day Levels 1 through 4.

FANUC robot training courses

Robotics Integration runs FANUC robot training as four FANUC training courses, each a 5-day, instructor-led session: Level 1 Introduction to FANUC Robots, Level 2 Programming and Troubleshooting, Level 3 Advanced Electrical Troubleshooting & Maintenance, and Level 4 Advanced Teach Pendant Programming. Each course applies to R-J3, R-J3i, R-J3iB, R-30iA, R-30iB and R-30iB Plus controllers, so technicians trained here can support a whole plant. For FANUC training in Michigan, classes run at our center in Warren, near Detroit Metro and Bishop International airports, or on-site at your facility using your own robots or a rented mobile robot cell. Reserve a seat through the class schedule or by calling 1-602-449-1556.

FANUC Level 1 Introduction to FANUC Robots

FANUC Level 1, Introduction to FANUC Robots, is a 5-day course for apprentices, journeymen, electrical control technicians (ECTs), supervisors and engineers who have limited or no FANUC experience, generally zero to one year on the floor. It applies to R-J3, R-J3i, R-J3iB, R-30iA, R-30iB and R-30iB Plus controllers, so students learn skills that carry across a plant running several robot generations rather than a single cell.

Students spend the week on safety, mode selection and basic recovery so they can get a line back up without making the problem worse. Key topics include:

  • Safety practices and correct use of T1, T2 and Auto mode
  • Jog speed settings and efficient jog methods for recovery
  • Basic system components, control panel and status indicators
  • Teach pendant navigation and coordinate system selection
  • Fault recovery using alarm and status screens
  • Program selection, cycling and typical program flow
  • Macros, manual functions and common program instructions
  • Tool center point (TCP) and mastering verification
  • Point touch-up versus adding new positions
  • Introduction to inputs and outputs and auto-mode preparation

By the end of the week, students can recover from common faults using the alarm screen, jog and touch up positions in the correct coordinate system, test cycle programs in step and continuous modes, and understand why a program stops when waiting on a signal so they don’t force a cycle and damage equipment.

FANUC Level 2 Programming and Troubleshooting

FANUC Level 2, Programming and Troubleshooting, is our most popular 5-day course, built for journeymen, ECTs, supervisors and engineers with one to five years of FANUC experience, or anyone who has completed Level 1. It covers the same controller range, R-J3 through R-30iB Plus, and moves from basic recovery into the programming and diagnostic work that keeps a cell running through a full shift.

Topics covered include:

  • Robot and electrical safety, plus DCS safety and recovery after DCS alarms
  • Advanced teach pendant navigation, copying and modifying programs
  • User frames and position, tool and position register offset instructions
  • Fault recovery, alarm diagnostics and status screen interpretation
  • Collision guard settings, recovery and tuning
  • I/O instructions and troubleshooting, including I/O networks and scanner/adapter relationships
  • TCP setup, verification and tuning after minor tooling crashes
  • Motion optimization for less cable wear and better cycle time
  • Preventive maintenance timing, oil and grease changes, backups and battery changes
  • Image and Back Up All backup procedures

Students leave able to modify programs safely, chase I/O faults across the network, and restore a robot to production after a minor crash without an unnecessary re-mastering job.

FANUC Level 3 Advanced Electrical Troubleshooting and Maintenance

FANUC Level 3, Advanced Electrical Troubleshooting & Maintenance, is a 5-day course for technicians with extensive FANUC experience or who have completed Level 2. It covers R-J3 through R-30iB Plus controllers and shifts the focus from operating and programming a robot to finding the root cause of a failure and repairing it correctly the first time.

The week is built around motor and brake testing and replacement, and replacement of key controller components, along with I/O and network troubleshooting. Recovery procedures are taught alongside every repair: mastering and TCP adjustment after a repair or a minor crash, and how to avoid touching up programs or re-mastering an axis when it isn’t actually necessary. Students also practice creating and restoring both standard and image backups so a controller can be swapped or rebuilt with production files intact.

The emphasis throughout is reducing downtime: diagnose the failed component, replace it, and get the robot back into Auto mode without chasing symptoms that were never the real problem.

FANUC Level 4 Advanced Teach Pendant Programming

FANUC Level 4, Advanced Teach Pendant Programming, is a 5-day FANUC robot programming training course for programmers with five or more years of FANUC programming experience, or anyone who has completed Level 2. It covers the same controller range as the other levels and is built for people who write and maintain TP programs, not just run them.

Students build and test advanced utilities, functions and instructions used on production lines, including:

  • Register math for offsets used in vision, stacking/destacking and palletizing
  • Mixed logic and background (BG) logic
  • Arguments and skip conditions for search functions
  • Automated error recovery from minor interruptions and crashes
  • Multiple control for recovery and downtime logging
  • FANUC utilities including program adjust, program shift and UTool/UFrame offsets

The course also covers running peripherals from the TP and troubleshooting complex programs written by someone else, a common task for a plant engineer inheriting a cell. By the end of the week, students can write and debug the conditional, multi-branch logic found on real palletizing and vision-guided lines rather than simple pick-and-place routines.

Choosing a level and building your training plan

Not every technician needs to start at Level 1. Experienced students can test out of a level and get help with placement instead of sitting through material they already know. A one-week seminar is a single 5-day course; a two-week seminar is two consecutive levels taught back to back, for example Level 1 into Level 2 or Level 2 into Level 3, or a two-week on-site program built around your equipment. Upcoming 2026 dates include FANUC Level 1, November 30-December 4, followed by Level 2, December 7-11, and Level 2, December 7-11, followed by Level 3, December 14-18.

All levels are also available on-site at your facility. If your own robots aren’t available during training hours, a mobile robot cell can be rented so hands-on lab time isn’t lost.

Students who work safely, pass all exercises and complete the assessments earn a training certificate of completion. This documents that the student finished the course and demonstrated the skills covered; it is not a FANUC robotics certification or any other OEM-issued credential. Employers can review course evaluations and the sign-in sheet.

Reserve your FANUC training seat

Reserve a seat using the Reserve a Seat buttons on the class schedule, or send in the course, date and number of students you need through the training request form. If you’re not sure which level fits a given technician, we can help with placement before you book, including testing out of Level 1 or Level 2 for experienced staff.

On-site training is available if it’s a better fit than sending people to Warren, Michigan, using your own robots or a rented mobile cell. Michigan’s Going PRO Talent Fund and other state workforce training grants can help offset the cost for eligible employers.
